The Importance of Reminders | How daily affirmations can change your life

Okay, let's get real for a minute. I want to share this scripture with you from Romans 12:2, it says:"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." (New Living Translation)

Wow... It can be super daunting to change the way that we think. Just imagine - a lifetime of neuro pathways or "thinking patterns" that have become a part of you. These ways of thinking are almost second nature to us by now and they dominate the way we experience life, people and different situations. Let's call it our 'filter' for that matter.

Now, I often find myself in a place where I struggle with negative thoughts about myself or certain situations. I have a mostly negative filter on life - unknowingly of course because no one wants to be negative on purpose. But the thing that I've come to realise is that I rarely reflect on what I think about. It may look like you're a positive person on the outside, but on the inside the 'filter' is way off. And this is what the enemy wants. He is stealing away the abundance and fullness of life and we're not even realising it. I know there are so many who can relate to this.

But in this verse God tells us, well almost commands us, to "let"Him change the way we think. He does the changing. He renews and refreshes our thought patterns. He restores abundance and fullness to our thinking, bringing beauty from ashes.

It is crazy to think that God can take the neuro pathways that have formed over years and years in our minds and rewrite them! Just like that. Because He is God.

I want to challenge and encourage us. Let's get into the Word. Start thinking about what youré thinking about. Fill your mind with the truth of who you are in Jesus and who He made you to be. Ask the Holy Spirit to change and renew the way that you think. The power of daily affirmations can change your life. When you get up in the morning declare that "this is the day that the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24). Write a verse on your hand to remind yourself throughout the day. Just keep on declaring truth over your everyday life. Fill your home with life-giving items and scripture.
